Burning Hands (乘勝狙擊): Episode 24 Recap

Burning Hands is a TVB drama that revolves around a team of con artists who are hired by a casino tycoon to find the mole embezzling his company’s funds. The leader of the gang, Jaak Gun Yat, though, has his own reasons for helping.

Yee Jai is in the security room making sure the guard erases all traces of him, Szeto, and Sou Mei on scene on the CCTVs. He instructs him to keep his mouth shut and when the police come tomorrow, to give them the cleaned CCTV tapes.

The police do come visit Yee Jai the next morning. He denies knowing who Szeto is. Veronica tells the police she and Yee Jai were in his house the whole night. With no other questions, they request for the CCTV tapes and leave.

The police in charge tells the crew the result of the autopsy report for Szeto and Sou Mei and also tells them they have no leads as to who killed them. Sun Kai Jai gets angry and says it’s obviously done by Yee Jai. The police explains they have no evidence against him and the CCTVs show none of the victims even entered the Chun Sing building. The crew knows Yee Jai did some work on the tapes.

Yat Gor is in despair. Win Jeh joins him. The two of them can’t believe that Yee Jai would go this far to kill their teacher just to hide evidence of his wrong doing.

Fok Chun Sing calls Yat Gor. He heard about the news of Szeto and is rushing back.

Yat Gor and Fok Chun Sing goes to the morgue to identify the bodies. Fok Chun Sing regrets asking Szeto to help him. If it wasn’t for him, Szeto wouldn’t have died and would have probably gotten married to Sou Mei by now.

Yat Gor wants to go back to Macau but Fok Chun Sing tries to talk him out of it. Win Jeh is pregnant and needs him by her side. Since Fok Chun Sing started this, he’ll be the one to go back and clean this mess up. Yat Gor isn’t listening. Szeto was both a teacher to him and Win Jeh and he was like a father to him. He won’t stand by and do nothing.

All his students are sprawled out in different places in Szeto’s home reminiscing their times with him. Sau Fung wanders into Szeto’s room and finds a box addressed to his students. They plug in the usb and watch the video Szeto left for them.

He tells them they’re all his favorite students. He’s been a con-artist for so long, earned so much money, that it’s time to be a good person. Though he’s heard good people die early, he’s prepared. The only thing he’s worried about is leaving Sou Mei behind. He asks that they take care of her, maybe introduce a nice guy to her too. His money is to split in half. One half would go to his students, and the other half would go to Sou Mei. Szeto says his final farewell and the video ends.

Everyone is either extremely upset and holding back their tears or bawling their eyes out.

On the day of the funeral, Yee Jai shows up to pay his respects. Sun Kai Jai says he has no right to be there and Win Jeh tells him he’s not welcomed. But Yat Gor doesn’t want them to cause a scene so they all sit down.

Yee Jai proceeds to thank Szeto. If it wasn’t for him, he wouldn’t be the man he is today. After his bow, Yee Jai turns to leave but Yat Gor tells him to go see Szeto. The two head to the back where the bodies are laid in their coffins.

Yee Jai says Szeto had it coming. If he wasn’t trying to be a good guy, he wouldn’t have died. Just like how if his father hadn’t been a good guy, his company wouldn’t have gone bankrupted, his mother wouldn’t have fallen ill and died, and he wouldn’t have ended up as a homeless picking up scraps off the streets to eat.

Yat Gor realizes Yee Jai has had a facade up during all the years they’ve known each other. Yee Jai admits that he’s been waiting all this time to finally have everything under the palm of his hands. And he’s done it. Yat Gor can’t believe it. He tells Yee Jai that they’re no longer brothers and he’s going to make sure he’s held accountable for Szeto’s death. Yee Jai can’t wait.

During dinner, Yat Gor has cooked up practically a feast but Win Jeh’s father is visibly upset. He knows this is going to be considered as a last meal. Yat Gor is going to go back to Macau to get his revenge for Szeto’s death. He understand where they’re coming from but he’s also worried if something happens to Yat Gor then Win Jeh would be a widow and single mother. Win Jeh assures him that Yat Gor promised to take care of himself and come back.

Yat Gor then explains this dinner is to ask Ho Ka Chung and his father to look after Win Jeh for him while he’s gone. Of course they agree.

Same thing happens at Fok Chun Sing’s house. They can only hope he stays safe.

Fok Chun Sing, Yat Gor, and his crew return to Macau together. Fok Chun Sing and Yat Gor go to see Stone but they’re met with Derek and some security guards. Derek tells them that Stone will be discharged and if they get in their way, he’ll call the police.

Yee Jai has his attorney come meet him. His lawyer hands him the copy of the of power of attorney document and Yee Jai burns it. He then tells the lawyer to make up something so that the public knows that this document has disappeared.

News reached the crew about the lawyer’s office catching on fire and the document they’re looking for has burned. They all know this was the work of Yee Jai. Fok Chun Sing tells them to beat him they have to faster and smarter than the other.

Fok Chun Sing meets with two members of the board and talks them into being on his side.

At the next board meeting, Fok Chun Sing shows up and takes his seat at the Chairman spot. He then tells the board members present that he has a few motions he’d like to propose. When he’s done, the two members that had previously agreed to be on his side excused themselves to go to the restroom. They don’t come back.

Yee Jai texts Zita that he won’t be coming in. After she announces this, the remaining board members leave. Fok Chun Sing is left alone in the meeting room.

Yee Jai comes to taunt him about his plan failing. Fok Chun Sing takes it in stride. He tells him as long as he’s in the game, he’ll eventually win Yee Jai. Yee Jai just laughs and looks forward to watching this show.

He tells Fok Chun Sing to tell Yat Gor that the two of them are invited to dinner at Jeung Tin Leung’s house. They both have to come.

The two go and Yee Jai calls out his godfather. Yat Gor sees his father limping and asks about his leg. Yee Jai tells them about the shooting incident with Stone. Fok Chun Sing doesn’t believe it but Ah Yun confirms it.

Then Yee Jai presents the house deed to Jeung Tin Leung, giving him his house back. Since Yee Jai treats him well, he tells him to just call him father and acknowledges him as his son instead of godson. He grabs Yee Jai and kisses him.

Ah Yun tells Jeung Tin Leung that Yat Gor is his real son. Jeung Tin Leung denies having such a traitorous son.

Yat Gor doesn’t care if Jeung Tin Leung acknowledges him as his son or not but he hopes that his father would stop continuing down the wrong path. Jeung Tin Leung tells him there’s no one here that’s his father. He fully supports Yee Jai and if anyone messes with him, they mess with Jeung Tin Leung.

War has pretty much been declared.

Win Jeh’s family goes over to Dawn’s house to have dinner with her and Celine. Win Jeh asks if she has heard any news from the guys but she hasn’t. No news is good news. Dawn wants to go over to Macau to check it out and report back to them but Celine tells her not too since she might just get in the way.

Ho Ka Chung brings dessert to Dawn and asks if she has a plan if she goes back to Macau. She tells him that she plans to get Derek to double-cross Yee Jai to work for them. Ho Ka Chung tells her he’ll go with her. Dawn thanks him.

They go to the bakery store where Ho Ka Chung has news that Derek likes to frequent. They find him chatting it up with Dawn’s friend and mistaken him as her boyfriend. Her friend clarifies that Derek is just a regular. Dawn then comes out and says she’s actually looking for him.

Dawn and Ho Ka Chung go to a cafe to talk to Derek. He’s not budging. He doesn’t care what a douchebag Yee Jai is as long as he pays well and treats him well. Dawn finally offers him double of what Yee Jai is paying him. He asks for some time to think about it and leaves.

The two of them head to eat at a restaurant afterwards. Dawn is worried whether Derek will help them or not.

Just then Yee Jai and Veronica appear and enter the restaurant. They approach their table and tells Dawn that Derek has told him everything. Yee Jai warns them to stop fooling around otherwise he won’t forgive them. Dawn doesn’t know what she used to see him in.

Yee Jai receives a phone call and rushes immediately to the nursing home his father is at. There he finds out his father choked on a fish bone. After the nurse leaves, Yee Jai starts yelling at his father. He then force feeds rice down his throat. Veronica can’t stand watching the scene and stops him. She gets a glass of water for his father but Yee Jai is unstoppable. He splashes his father’s face with the water and leaves.

Dawn and Ho Ka Chung were hiding outside. They go in and check on Yee Jai’s father after the other pair leaves. Ho Ka Chung hears someone coming back and gets Dawn to hide in the corner. Veronica comes back for her purse. She stays to feed Yee Jai’s father.

She tells him that she has a father like him that lives in a nursing home. She’s the younger daughter so she was the favorite but with his old age, he doesn’t even remember who she is sometimes. She wishes she could feed her father food sometimes. Yee Jai’s father finally eats the food she feeds him.

Dawn watches the whole scene.

Yee Jai is a real piece of work.
