Provocateur (與諜同謀) {Series Review}

Plot overview from wikipedia:

After the deaths of his first and second wife, cosmetic mogul Cheuk Gwan Lam tries to turn over a new leaf. As fate would have it, he encounters a resourceful young man known as Ringo Poon, through whom he sees a younger version of himself. Cheuk Gwan Lam develops a familial attachment towards Ringo. The young man also wins the favor of Cheuk’s secretary Rachel Chan, who believes that Ringo would lead the company, Endless Beauty, to success. Rachel, still mourning over the disappearance of her husband Vincent many years ago, drowns herself with work. Endless Beauty, as well as Cheuk Gwan Lam himself, becomes her sole purpose in life. Ringo exploits the trust Rachel has in him, also winning Cheuk Gwan Lam’s approval. Little do they know that Ringo is actually secretly conspiring with a team of talented people on the sly to steal trade secrets from large corporations for money. Ringo has been planning this for years, seeking the best opportunity to take destructive revenge on Endless Beauty.

This drama started out pretty good. I liked the various “jobs” they did but now that I think about it, they only really did one real job of stealing trade secrets and selling it and that was in the first episode. The rest of the drama, the other jobs they did were just miscellaneous stuff. This is the major thing about HK dramas that I have a problem with. The drama is set within a certain industry but we only ever see them actually doing stuff involving the industry once – and that’s in the beginning few episodes. After that, it’s always about the character’s relationships. So boring and predictable.

I liked how Fred’s character Ringo was so cunning though. It was always interesting to see his plans play out.

My favorite characters were Yan Yan and Mr. Hong. Yan Yan is such a strange person lol so hermit like and lacks normal social skills. What I found most amusing about her is that she would interact with the others by barking and meowing – this I never understood but it was weird as fuck lol. Mr. Hong on the other hand, was such a cute cheeky kid and super smart and mature for his age too. I just love when he gets sassy with people. It’s hilarious haha.

Not much else to say about this other than the fact that while watching, a lot of things don’t really make much sense nor would be plausible either. But meh, what is a HK drama without being ridiculously out there lol. The ending was pretty weak too.

A good drama to kill time with I guess if you have nothing better to do but not something I would recommend to watch.
